The Ramblin’ Laurels met through the Yellowstone Bluegrass Association and formed their band in the autumn of 2001. At the time of its inception, all members of the band lived in Laurel, hence the name Ramblin’ Laurels. Over the years, as quite often happens, musicians in the band have departed and others joined to fill needed instrumentation and voices. Today only one original band member (Mike Rolison) forms the core of the group. Though the other members all hale from Billings, the name remains the same. The band strives to achieve a tight, clean style of musicianship and great harmonies as they perform both classic bluegrass and favorite old-time hits from various genre in the music world. The band initiated Tuesday night jam sessions in Laurel that are open to the public and those YBA members who may not be able to attend the Friday night jams at the Lincoln Center in Billings. On the last Tuesday of each month, the jam occurs at the Pizza Hut in Laurel. These guys (and gal) truly love music in general and bluegrass in all its forms. From the classic high lonesome sound to borrowing songs from country and folk and giving them that bluegrass flavor, this group has a versatile and enjoyable mix of tunes to please most any audience. For information on the group, call Mike Rolison at (406) 628-8639. Mike Rolison: lead guitar/vocals, Terry Indreland: rhythm guitar/vocals, Ken Brandt: dobro/high tenor vocals, Laura Steinmetz: bass/vocals, Wade Steinmetz: banjo, and on occasion, Trent Indreland, mandolin.
